What this tool does

Copy Design creates a full copy of the active assembly plus all its underlying references to a new folder in one go, with updated links. Associated drawings (.idw and .dwg) come along automatically. Library and Content Center parts are not copied but reused.

You can bulk rename with a prefix, suffix, and find-and-replace, or have numbers assigned from the Number Generator.

How to use it
  1. Open the assembly you want to copy and start Copy Design. For each component, the list shows the columns Copy, Type, Original Name, New Name, and Status.
  2. At Target, choose the destination folder (by default a Copy subfolder next to your assembly).
  3. Bulk rename under Rename: fill in Prefix (default copy_), Suffix, or a Find/Replace, and click Apply rename. Or pull numbers with Assign # from the Number Generator.
  4. Use Copy All / Reuse All to check off what you copy. Gray rows (Library / Content Center) are always reused.
  5. Run the copy. Copy Design checks for empty names, duplicate paths, and existing files, copies the files, and quietly repoints all references to the copy.

Settings

Assign # (Number Generator)

Optional, only if the Number Generator is set up.

Sequence
The number series that numbers are pulled from; the prefix itself contains the separator (P- → P-1000).

Assign #
Pulls a new number for each copied model in a single transaction (all-or-nothing). Drawings automatically get the number of their model.

Tips
💡
Pulled numbers are used up, even if you cancel the copy afterward.
💡
Use Copy Design (and not a manual folder copy) so the references keep pointing neatly to the new parts.
