What this tool does
The Number Generator automatically hands out unique numbers from its own PostgreSQL database. Every customer has their own database; the required table creates itself on the first connection check. Once the generator is on, it automatically proposes the next number when you save a new part or assembly. For drawings it takes over the number of the associated model.
How to use it
- Open Settings → Number Generator and turn on Enable Number Generator.
- Under PostgreSQL connection, fill in the Host, Port (default 5432), Database, Username, and Password fields — exactly the same on every workstation.
- Click Check connection. The first time, the tables are created; on success “Connection successful.” appears.
- In Active sequence name, enter the sequence this workstation uses. Manage sequences with Manage sequences….

Tips
💡
No PostgreSQL server yet? See the separate page PostgreSQL server (Number Generator) for installing and setting up the database.
💡
A drawing doesn't consume a new number but inherits the number of its model; the prefix used is stored as the iProperty NGPrefix.
💡
Use separate sequences (e.g. PART and ASSY-2026) so disciplines or projects don't get in each other's way.
